Used by Healers for Centuries, You May Be Asking, “What Are Effective Crystals for Calming Anxiety?”

A looming election. A global pandemic. An economic recession. And more racial injustices and viral police brutality ignite worldwide protests and lingering anxiety on the heels of an exhausting year.

It’s safe to say 2020 has been rough.

Humanity isn’t just suffering from a viral pandemic called Covid-19, we’re also suffering from a mental health pandemic as well.

But natural crystals and stones can have a positive effect on your mental health. Several crystals can help to calm anxiety naturally, such as:

  • Hematite
  • Celestine
  • Amethyst

Several other gorgeous, inexpensive, and stress-busting stones are mentioned below. These crystals can help take the edge off so your anxiety doesn’t feel like a runaway train about to jump the tracks.

In this beginner’s guide to healing crystals, you’ll be able to take back your power by arming yourself with a natural tool.

As silly as it sounds, crystals can help calm your mind and body during this daunting time. You may be afraid to leave your house due to fear of contracting the Coronavirus, but crystals can help to remove your unnecessary fear-based energy. The benefits of working with a crystal include:

  • Holding the power to “flip” fear-based energy to a more calm, hopeful outlook.
  • Having a powerful tool — aside from chardonnay, to help fight your anxiety.
  • The realization that you can control your reaction to your situation and how it makes you feel. And having this control can sometimes make all the difference.

The Winds of Change

A lot has changed since 2019. In the past, you’ve always been dependable and hard-working. Whether you’ve been furloughed or you’re a frontline worker with an essential service position, the anxiety and fear in your life are real. Your new reality may include religiously counting the number of toilet paper rolls your house goes through in case there’s another shortage, and scanning the headlines for signs of hope, only to experience greater anxiety.

As the weeks go by and the stress of the headlines spikes your blood pressure, you try calming yourself. But your anxiety is too strong. It always seems to win. Because the lockdown has been present for several months, you’ve grown to live with constant functioning anxiety. From the moment you wake up to the time your head hits the pillow, your anxiety is always present.

Studied by Science

Even the scientific community has taken notice of crystals and their intriguing properties. While there’s currently no official studies published on the healing power of crystals, they’re used in cell phones, watches, and even computers today. That’s because crystals have the lowest amount of entropy — a measurement of disorder. This makes them the most precise, stable structure found in nature.

Marcel Vogal was an IBM scientist and inventor. He invented the magnetic coating for disc drives and created LCD (liquid crystal display) technologies still in use today. Even though Vogal passed away before any of his studies on crystals could be published, he was the first scientist to discover the hidden power of crystals.1

While watching crystals grow under a microscope, Vogal held a thought and noticed the crystals formed into whatever he consistently thought about. He believed the vibrations of the mind influenced the bonds between the molecules within crystals.

Vogal hypothesized that crystals can store thoughts — the same way magnetic energy can store sounds on tapes. He was the first to realize crystals had the potential to store, amplify, and transfer information through their own intelligence matrix.

Translation: crystals can be programmed.

IBM Scientist Creates a Crystal Wand

Marcel Vogal later experimented and created a crystal “wand” out of a piece of clear quartz in the 1980s. He cut the stone into a hexagonal shape with six sides.

Based on his study of crystals and his intuition, he pulsed his breath and sent a charge into a crystal. This crystal happened to be pointing at his co-worker Chuck Mignosa. Chuck had been complaining about back pain from skiing over the weekend. Chuck’s back pain surprisingly disappeared.

Other Healing Practices Using Crystals

Holistic healers have used crystals in their healing work for centuries. Modern-day Pranic Healing is a type of healing energy work, and it’s called “one of the most extraordinary global movements that is gaining traction as we speak,” by Forbes. Because of the pioneering work of Marcel Vogal, many healers today use clear quartz crystal wands while performing healings. This includes the late scientist and chemical engineer, Choa Kok Sui, who founded Pranic Healing.2

There are nightly Pranic Healing meditations held through Zoom which are translated into over 15 languages. But you don’t need to be a certified Pranic Healer or a scientist for crystals to benefit your life.

Seven Crystals With Calming Properties

Crystals are not only pretty to look at, but they also hold subtle, yet powerful energies. They’re formed naturally by the Earth’s minerals, pressure, and temperature.3 Think of crystals as gifts from Mother Earth — colorful healing trinkets that took millennia to form deep within the Earth’s crust. And because they absorbed Mother Nature’s energies while forming, their energy can help you through those rough patches we all face… especially now.

Celestine

Celestine is a shimmering powder-blue crystal with glistening point formations. Celestine is known for:

  • Calming panic attacks and crying spells.
  • Promoting peace, intuition, and helping you to connect with your Higher Power.
  • Helping you to see through the noise of panic and despair by first calming your mental emotions, then allowing your physical body to relax.
  • Its ability to help you align with your intuition.

Hematite

Hematite is a granite stone and one of several crystals used for fear. It’s a crystal of truth and logic. This black to dark red or grey stone can sometimes be found in other colors and has a lustrous shine to it when tumbled. Hematite is known for:

  • Giving you strength during times of adversity.
  • Grounding and calming when you suffer from overwhelming emotions.
  • Clearing negative thinking patterns, and warding off mental confusion and stress.
  • Helping you to focus on the facts when you’re distracted and want to focus on your story or emotions instead.

Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a crystal of nurturing love. It’s a popular crystal due to its beautiful pink hue and gentle loving energy. Rose Quartz is known for:

  • Grounding and supporting you, while helping to realign and tune your heart chakra.
  • Promoting calming, unconditional self-love, and self-forgiveness if you’re hard on yourself. Love won’t flow abundantly into your life if you don’t love yourself enough.
  • Crystal Healer and author Adam Barralet says, “During meditation, Rose Quartz helps you to realize where you do have love in your life, instead of looking at where it’s lacking. It’ll help you come to an awareness of where love actually is, even if it’s not in the form you currently desire [like romantic love].”
  • Rose Quartz also helps you to be more gentle with yourself. Remember, emotional support and relief from anxiety is your birthright.

Clear Quartz

Clear Quartz is one of the most abundant crystals found on Earth. Known as the “master crystal,” Clear Quartz holds a property called pietzoelectricity, meaning it can generate an electrical field.4 This is why Clear Quartz is essential and found in everything from watches to electronic equipment. Clear Quartz is known for:

  • Bringing about relaxation and clarity during confusing and difficult times.
  • Its ability to amplify the energy of other crystals nearby.
  • Balancing and calming your emotions.
  • Its capacity to hold white light. White light can lift you up when you’re feeling defeated.

Blue Lace Agate

Blue Lace Agate is a popular healing stone for stress. Its delicate pastel, matte blue color brings you peace just by looking at it. Blue Lace Agate is known for:

  • Dissolving anxiety because of its gentle, soothing vibration.
  • Calming stress by drawing negative energy out of your energy field, promoting emotional healing.
  • Helping you become aligned with your Higher Self, allowing you to receive and process communication from your own inner wisdom.
  • Peacefulness and gentleness. Blue Lace Agate can be placed anywhere it’s needed, such as your workspace or bedroom.

Amethyst

Amethyst is another type of quartz. This stunning purple crystal is very popular and common in jewelry and home decor. This shimmering stone resembles rock candy, and is known for:

  • Its stress-busting, peaceful and tranquil energy. Amethyst is extraordinary to wear or hold when you need to calm down or have difficulty sleeping.
  • Calming fear and bringing balance back into your life by activating the crown chakra.
  • Its potential to help you to realize things you sometimes overlook — such as realizing what causes happiness in your life. It doesn’t distract you from your turmoil — instead, it helps you to realize there’s more to life than your current issues.
  • Stopping racing thoughts from keeping you up. You can place a piece on your nightstand or somewhere in your bedroom to battle insomnia.

Iron Pyrite

Iron Pyrite is also known as “Fool’s Gold.” It usually comes in alluring gold to pewter shades. It can develop natural cubic formations in it, giving it a striking appearance. Iron Pyrite is known for:

  • Attracting wealth and prosperity.
  • Promoting positive thinking by helping you to overcome fears. Iron Pyrite helps your brain get out of adrenaline-producing limbic system trauma circles which are associated with feelings of panic.
  • Strengthening your willpower and helping you remember that all things change. Nothing stays the same forever.
  • Its ability to help you find relief if you’re overwhelmed with fear, negative thoughts, or feelings of paranoia.

Choosing a Crystal

You can look for one of the above-mentioned crystals to reduce stress in your life, and another good rule-of-thumb is to buy a crystal you’re drawn to. While viewing crystals online, you may notice one catches your eye. Or you may keep going back to it after scrolling. You could be drawn to its pattern, shape, or eye-catching color.

You may even experience a wave of calmness, joy, or other positive emotions as you view a particular crystal. This process is known as “your crystal choosing you.”

Once you’ve ordered your crystal, rest assured you selected the right one. There’s no right or wrong way to choose your crystal.

Clearing Your Crystal

Once your crystal arrives, it’s good to clear it right away. If you were to buy a new set of dishes, you’d probably wash them before you ate off of them, right? The same principle works for using a new crystal. This is because crystals can pick up other people’s energies which may not serve you. Anytime someone handles a crystal their energy is absorbed into it.

There are several ways you can clear a crystal, such as:

  • If you have incense or sage, you can burn either of these and pass your crystal through the smoke.
  • If there’s a full moon, you can set your crystal outside under the full moon for at least four hours.
  • You can hold many crystals under running water for clearing. However, some crystals like amber, turquoise, red coral, fire opal, moonstone, calcite, kyanite, kunzite, angelite, azurite and selenite actually disintegrate underwater. For ease of reference, remember many stones ending in “ite” are not water-compatible.
  • You can quickly pass your crystal through the open flame of a candle three times. Or set it in front of an open fire for clearing.
  • Set most crystals outside in direct sunlight for at least four hours. Some crystals, like purple fluorite, may fade its colors in sunlight. So check beforehand.
  • You can bury your crystal in the ground for several hours. This allows the Earth to absorb and clear any energies your crystal may hold.

You can hold your crystal in your closed hand, blow into your closed hand three times and clear it verbally. Then you can say something like: “I ask my Higher Power to help me remove all unwanted energies from this crystal.” You can also chant “om” several times to clear your crystal.

Setting an Intention

Photo by Glenn Carstens-Peters on Unsplash

Giving your crystal an intention is the same thing as programming it. Just like you download certain apps to your phone to do certain tasks, your crystal is also a tool. You just have to tell it what to do.

So after clearing your crystal, program it by giving it an intention.

An intention can be anything from calming bad crying spells to stopping fearful thoughts that stem from lockdown anxiety.

Example intentions include:

  • Calm anxiety and fear
  • Stop negative thinking from taking over
  • Protection from acts of racism or viruses for yourself and your family
  • Harness more love or financial stability into your life
  • Manifest new opportunities into your life

Setting an intention can be achieved in several ways, including:

  • You can hold your crystal in your hand so it can feel your essence.
  • You can also hold it against your heart or up to your third eye, in-between your eyebrows. This tunes your crystal to your vibration.

Now that you chose your crystal, cleared it, and set its intention, you’re ready to use it.

Working With Your Crystal

Start by sitting in a quiet place, if possible. Then think about your intention and what you need help with. Visualize the area of your life where you’d like to see improvement.

Imagine the positive outcome you’d like to see happen, and when you’d like it to happen.

Say a prayer or affirmation. It should be in the present tense. Writing down your prayer or affirmation is more powerful. An example of a prayer or affirmation can be:

“The healing power of the Universe calms and protects me.

My mind, body, and soul are healed, focused, and guided with Divine love and light.

My Higher Power blesses me with awareness and grants me the gifts of peace, comfort, vitality, and financial abundance.

So it is. So it is. So it is.

So be it. So be it. So be it.

Amen.”

Healing With Crystals — Important Lessons and a Plan of Action

Extreme anxiety is a normal response to very stressful times. But know your anxiety and panic attacks are important lessons that not only force you into survival mode but also serve as a wake-up call.

“Crystals are not these magical stones that are going to change your life. Crystals are tools to help you go to those deeper layers within yourself, but you still have to do the work.” says Heather Askinosie of Energy Muse.4

For example, perhaps you know that you don’t have enough saved in your emergency fund. So your job, home, and basic needs are suddenly in jeopardy. This could be the root cause of your intense anxiety. With the help of your crystal, it’s important to quiet the mind and acknowledge this important lesson from the Universe.

Because the Universe is demanding a better version of you. The reason for this is to put you on a higher, more fulfilling path. Instead of panicking, thank the Universe for this valuable lesson and ask for assistance in growing your prosperity and discipline. This way you can rise to your higher path.

The Healing Ritual

With your crystal touching you, close your eyes and take three deep breaths. Your crystal can be in your hand, on your lap, tucked inside your bra or pocket, or worn as jewelry. Say your prayer or affirmation as many times as you need to, either out loud or silently.

On those really rough days where you’re having trouble calming down, try focusing on your breath for a few minutes. You can hold your crystal against your heart, gently pressing it against your chest.

Our self-talk is so important. We’ll talk to ourselves more than anyone else. Take a step back and tell yourself you’re only going to focus on your breath and nothing else right now. Patience and understanding is key during your crystal self-healing work.

Then wait until you start to feel more grounded. If you’re experiencing a bad panic attack or crying spell, this can take several minutes. Once you’ve reached a point where you’re beginning to notice more stillness, visualize what you’d like to manifest — again, going back to your prayer or affirmation. Your crystal can help you raise your vibration so your affirmation becomes more powerful.

Remember, it’s not your job to worry about how the Universe is going to accommodate your desires. Your only job is to visualize whatever you’d like to manifest.

The Power of Visualization

Instead of focusing on the pain, fear, and lower emotions of your current anxiety, allow your brain to acknowledge the discomfort.

Then switch your focus and think about what you’d like to accomplish. This could be calming your anxiety to being successful in a new career path.

Who are you with? How are you feeling? What are you saying? What are you wearing? What is a typical day like in your calm, productive, and successful future? Keep visualizing and feeling your prayer or affirmation. Responding to emails and feeding the cat can wait. This is your time now. Just focus on what you want.

Maybe you’re so successful you have the means to have a well-rounded emergency fund, pay off your house and take your family on a vacation you’ve been dreaming of? You’re even in a position to donate to charities that speak to your heart.

A Plan of Action

After you’ve used your crystal to calm yourself and shift your focus on your prayer or affirmation, the next step is to take a personal vow.

Make a promise to yourself to become more mindful of planning for future emergencies. Or make a pact that you’ll get better at taking care of yourself, or you’ll learn a new skill so you can make a career pivot. Or maybe your promise to yourself is simply to do more self-care work with your crystal? Whatever it is you need to do to create more of what you desire is the next step to help you find your higher path.

While we can’t plan for a crisis, the way we respond to them and the lessons we learn from them can be powerful. So powerful they’re often priceless and life-changing.

We just have to have the ability to sort through all the noise and find the light within these upsetting experiences. And your crystal is your powerful aid to help facilitate this process for you.

The Lesson

Working with crystals helps to place you in the mindset of practicing self-care. This allows you to:

  • Forgive yourself.
  • Take better care of yourself.
  • Realize what areas in your life you need to work on in order to grow and evolve.
  • Practice more self-discipline… this could be something small like turning off your cell phone notifications and limiting the news so those click-bait headlines don’t act as a trigger.
  • Eat better and go to bed earlier for the next few days.

All of these small shifts have the power to reap huge gains in your life. Changing and evolving usually involves growing pains, which is part of the human experience.

While crystal healing energy work has its critics, remember how you felt before you began working with your crystal. Compare how you were feeling before to how you feel now. Calmer? Centered? Hopeful? Aware? Empowered? More focused? This is the subtle, but effective energy power of crystals.

So reclaim your power. Begin your self-care healing journey by ordering a healing crystal today.
